"Introduction to WinBUGS for Ecologists"

One of us has just published a book that is very similar in spirit to our new book, Bayesian population analysis using WinBUGS, but much more introductory: Introduction to WinBUGS for Ecologists (Academic Press, 2010). Based on a successful workshop as well, the concept of the blue bug book is the same as that of red butterfly book: flexible statistical modeling using WinBUGS is illustrated with richly commented, worked examples and in a language that should be accessible to most ecologists. The models covered in the blue bug book comprise a progression from very similar to more advanced linear models, to generalized linear, linear mixed and finally to generalized linear mixed models. Hence, this book covers exactly the statistical models that most ecologists and indeed empirical scientists use in their daily statistical work. For comparison with WinBUGS, all analyses are also conducted using the frequentist functions in R, such as lm(), glm() and lmer(). Hence, this book would be useful for you even if you chose to stick to a classical approach to statistics. If you find the material in the BPA book challenging, then the blue bug book is a useful start for you.
