It is strictly coastal or pelagic. Owing to its extremely local distribution, it is one of the most endangered kinds of gulls despite the present increase of populations, for it depends heavily on conservation measures. The most conspicuous characteristics of the adult bird are the black-tipped, dark-red bill and the dark iris. In comparison with the Yellow-legged Gull, the Audouin’s Gull is slimmer and paler.
