When grass is cut for silage, large areas are often mown at once. Their good flight and walking abilities and joint exploitation of food resources give crows an advantage over other farmland birds. The Carrion Crow has a long history of persecution as a nest robber and pest. From an ecological point of view, however, there are no compelling reasons for this. Moreover, persecution has not succeeded in decimating the population anywhere. Non-breeding flocks in particular can cause damage to crops. On the other hand, crows are useful birds, as they devour large numbers of mice and snails, especially during breeding season.
</oembed>
