It jointly uses good feeding areas such as hay meadows. Birds occupying a nest usually defend a radius of about 15 metres round their nest which is avoided by neighbouring pairs. The male likes to perch conspicuously near the nest at the top of a bush or on top of raised ground. Thus it marks the territory of its nest which it also defends against other species together with its partner.
