In the past, mating calls used to be heard in several wetlands of the Swiss lowlands, however, drainage and destruction of their habitat made them disappear as breeding birds. In the rest of Europe, however, they are still widely distributed. On the Mediterranean and on the North Sea, Common Redshanks may already be breeding while the breeding birds of northern Scandinavia are still on passage in our country.
