When migrating, the birds mostly avoid the Alps and usually fly along the Jura Mountains and over the Swiss Plateau. There is a concentration of migrating pigeons at certain points in October when enormous flocks can be seen. In the whole of Europe, Common Woodpigeons are a desired game bird. Peregrine Falcons and Northern Goshawks often try to snatch a bird out of large, dense flocks in a dashing hunting flight.
