It favours rugged cliffs in the Alps and the Jura Mountains. Its remarkable flying skills allow it to exploit slight air streams. It performs tight turns, almost looping the loop, then again darts down into the valley. More recently, the Crag Martin has increasingly been nesting on artificial structures such as bridges or in villages and is expanding its breeding area towards the Swiss lowlands.
