The male begins to attach plant fibres and fluffy seeds to the very tips of branches of a willow or birch tree to start the pear-shaped basic construction of the pouch-like nest which the female helps him to complete. The entrance leads through a tube-like extension. The nests are woven so artistically that in Eastern Europe they were even used as slippers for little children.
