Later on, especially in the course of the 19th and 20th centuries, it expanded its range more and more to the north and is today quite a widespread breeding bird in Central and Eastern Europe. Without the aid of man, the European Serin could not have expanded so quickly, since the conifers for which the little, yellow bird has a preference are to be found mainly in the proximity of human settlements.
