The birds are social, live almost all year round in groups and spend cold nights huddled together to increase survival. Long-tailed Tits do not have a loud territorial song but utter a soft twittering. Extra adults help to defend nests and to feed the young. The constant high-pitched contact calls often betray the presence of the small, restless acrobats in the branches even before they are seen. Thanks to their light weight and long tail that is used to balance, they are able to skilfully move to the tips of branches.
</oembed>
