It breeds in the vast steppes of Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Due to the loss of habitat in the entire region, however, the population is declining rapidly. While the very pale male is easily identified, the distinction between female-coloured Pallid and Montagu’s Harriers is only possible in excellent conditions.
