The beautiful Purple Gallinule skilfully moves over lily pads and through dense vegetation. It's extremely long toes prevent it from sinking in. There are occasional sightings in Europe that suggest vagrants. However, the only confirmed sighting so far on Swiss territory was most likely an escape from captivity.
