Due to specific habitat requirements, narrow limits are set to its dispersal, and today all suitable old reedbeds are inhabited in Switzerland. About 90 per cent of the local population breeds along the southern shore of Lake Neuchâtel. This illustrates the vital importance of this area called “Grande Cariçaie”. The plain-coloured Savi’s Warbler usually betrays its presence by its song, an insect-like whirring.
