But the two species are easily identified by their song. Unlike its relative, the Spotless Starling has a uniformly black plumage without flecks during the summer months. The Spotless Starling replaces the Common Starling as a breeding bird in southwestern Europe and Sardinia. The largest populations are found on the Iberian Peninsula and in northwestern Africa.
