https://www.vogelwarte.ch/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/5060_1.jpg16001200The Western Yellow Wagtail is a frequent passage migrant in the whole of Switzerland and likes to rest near cattle herds and in wetlands. In flocks, a more or less distinct variety of colours and patterns of the heads of males can be distinguished. The large geographic variation of the species enables a partial classification of males into different subspecies and to thus deduce their origin. The Western Yellow Wagtail used to breed in wet meadows but has in some regions colonised cultivated land as well.
