This species rapidly expanded in Europe during the 20th century. In Finland, the population was estimated at 10,000 pairs in the 1940s. In the meantime there are 400,000 pairs. In the course of this expansion, the Common Rosefinch reached Switzerland as from 1979. As is typical of a new colonisation, it is often one-year-old, brown coloured males that occur as pioneers and perform their simple, fluting song in new territories. The Common Rosefinch makes only a short visit to Switzerland, within two months already it returns in the direction of the Indian subcontinent."}
