È l'unica specie presente in Europa di un grupo principalmente africano. Quale uccello prevalentemente stanziale, in inverni rigidi subisce forti perdite, colmandole tuttavia in seguito con un elevato tasso riproduttivo. Nell'Europa meridionale le femmine possono covare con successo già all'età di 40 giorni. I maschi eseguono, durante il canto, un tipico volo ondulato. Per il resto il Beccamoschino è molto difficile da scoprire.
