The Swiss Ornithological Institute was commissioned by the FOEN and the FOCA to investigate the potential of air traffic to disturb waterbirds. The research includes the evaluation of 190 studies on disturbances caused by civil and military aircraft. In addition, the reactions of waterbirds to overflights by low-flying aircraft and helicopters at different altitudes were studied experimentally and analysed at lakes on the Swiss Plateau.
