We handle the donations entrusted to us very carefully. For many years, the Swiss Ornithological Institute has carried the ZEWO seal of approval for non-profit institutions.

The Northern Lapwing lives in wet meadows and breeds on the ground. It comes as no surprise that this wading bird that was once widespread now struggles to survive in Switzerland and is threatened with extinction. Our recovery programme aims to prevent Northern Lapwing nesting on agricultural land from getting crushed, while also creating more fallow land and wet meadows.

Our Bird Care Team is on duty every day. The spectrum of feathered patients ranges from Common Blackbirds to Little Grebes. We always aim to ensure that the birds entrusted to us are released back into the wild. Together with the bird care centres, most of which are run by volunteers, we provide first aid for thousands of birds throughout the country.

The population of the European Hoopoe suffered a drastic reduction. Thanks to the support provided by the Swiss Ornithological Institute, the remaining population in Valais is recovering so well that the species is beginning to regain a foothold elsewhere, too.

The difference your donation can make

For 45 francs, for example, the Swiss Ornithological Institute is able to provide care for a small bird that has suffered an accident, feed it and give it the necessary medication.

For 60 francs, the Swiss Ornithological Institute is able to install a nesting box at a suitable location for the purpose of species recovery for the Common Hoopoe, for example.

For 90 francs, the Swiss Ornithological Institute is able to provide ten ares (1,000 square metres) of fallow land for the Northern Lapwing, for example.
