Framework programme “International Bird Conservation”

The populations of African-Eurasian migratory birds are declining rapidly, with species that eat insects being particularly affected. To reverse this alarming trend, effective international conservation action is required along the entire flyways. Through its new framework programme, ‘International Bird Conservation’, the Swiss Ornithological Institute is addressing this global challenge. The programme combines scientific knowledge, international cooperation, and practical conservation measures in the birds’ breeding, stopover, and wintering areas. A key part of this work involves coordinating the African-Eurasian Migratory Landbirds Action Plan (AEMLAP). Through these efforts, the Swiss Ornithological Institute supports the long-term protection of migratory birds across countries and continents.
