Species promotion – Hazel Grouse

Promotion of the smallest and most secretive grouse

The Hazel Grouse is the smallest of the four native grouse species. It is widespread in the Alps and the western Jura. In the central and eastern Jura, however, the range has become smaller in the course of the last 25 years or so. The species promotion project is dedicated to evaluating the reasons for this decline and developing measures that are implemented with partners to improve the habitat situation.

Forest habitats

Our Forest team is committed to preserving and promoting Switzerland’s forest habitats for birds. We focus on training and continuing education in forestry, ensure knowledge is transferred into practice and contribute to reducing the deficits of waste wood and dead wood as well as species-specific, special and rare habitats through specific funding projects and land conservation in forests.
