New stopover site for waders at Vieille Thielle NE

A pilot project in which artificial flooding reconciles agriculture and nature conservation

With wetlands having become increasingly rare in Switzerland, flooded farmland can be a godsend for wading birds seeking rest during their long migrations. The controlled and artificial flooding of a meadow in the the nature protection area of Vieille Thielle will provide a new resting place for waders during their post-breeding migration. This six-year pilot project will assess how the site responds to the addition of water before considering a more permanent system.
