Between overgrowth on the one hand and the disappearance of isolated structures on the other, this clearing in Bex seemed destined to follow the same path as the majority of lowland agricultural areas, where biodiversity is still struggling to find a place. Under the impetus of the local landowners, the ‘Upswing for birds’ programme is supporting the redevelopment of this site, which has great potential for birds.
View of the lower part of the clearing, where tall, old fruit trees stand alongside young, recently planted ones.
Grazing by different types of livestock, including sheep, will help to increase biodiversity in the clearing.
The forest has been partly cleared to enable the planting of chestnut trees.
The farm now takes account of the presence of rare species of flora, including the poet’s daffodil.
