Sviluppiamo modelli (simulazione) per identificare fattori e segnali che determinano la scelta delle tappe e la programmazione della migrazione degli uccelli. In particolare studiamo il ruolo svolto dalla disponibilità di cibo (qualità, quantità e tempistica) e da altri parametri locali specifici nella decisione di iniziare o riprendere la migrazione, comparando le previsioni basate su modelli a dati empirici sulla migrazione. Inoltre, estendendo questi modelli migratori per incorporare lo stato di infezione degli uccelli analizziamo il ruolo della migrazione nella diffusione e nelle dinamiche delle epidemie come l’influenza aviaria.
