Gender Equality Plan

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

It is not only nature that is subject to constant change. Society and the working environment are also constantly changing. ln both nature and society, diversity is key to future success. The Swiss Ornithological lnstitute (SOl) employs people of different genders with different professional backgrounds, people who speak different languages and come from different countries. Bringing together and promoting these different experiences and values is a prerequisite for providing an exciting and successful working envlronment.

The Gender Equality Plan (GEP) of the Swiss Ornithological Institute outlines the institute’s commitment to fostering an equal, inclusive, diverse and nondiscriminatory working environment. Extending existing measures and mindful of legal obligations, the GEP provides a structured framework to promote gender equality across employment, leadership, organisational culture, and research practices. It combines an evidence based analysis of the current situation with concrete actions, governance structures, and monitoring mechanisms to ensure continuous improvement and transparency, striving to do so with wide participation of the institute’s staff.

The Foundation Board and the Directorate have adopted the GEP in April 2026 and are committed to its implementation.
