In the publication “The State of Birds in Switzerland”, the Swiss Ornithological Institute provides and annual summary of the latest findings generated by its monitoring projects involving more than 2,000 volunteers in all parts of the country. The report covers breeding birds, migrants and winter visitors. Methodological aspects are also highlighted, as are international developments.

Project objectives
Every year, the Status of Bird Species unit summarises the most important results from the various monitoring projects in the status report. In addition, we provide information on the background to current developments. The aim is to make the Swiss Ornithological Institute’s findings on the current state of our birdlife available to the general public.
Methodology
The status report is based on data gathered through the long-term monitoring projects such as the monitoring of common breeding birds (MHB), the monitoring of selected species (MAA) and the waterbird counts. Observations recorded via ornitho.ch and the NaturaList app are also incorporated in the analyses.
